A baptism, the World Cup and a Multizona coming up...

Yeah, the pension is looking a little better now, the bathroom still smells but it’s all right. The zone leaders pension is the best pension in the mission, so I don`t think they will be jealous of ours Haha! Changomas is like a Wal-Mart store here but they carry a lot of Argentine food. We go there sometimes. The Changomas store is not in our area. Our area is on the other side of the Ruta 11, far from the center of the city.  We are close to fixing the shower in our apartment but it's not fixed yet. It heated up a while but then it dropped in temp again. It is hot and cold here! Haha.

I will share as much as I can about this week with you guys. The fasting and prayer paid off and C. quit smoking and was baptized on Saturday. The night she was baptized we called a remis (taxi) and we had the taxi take her home and it was so weird the feeling that I had. I was so worried for her for some reason. I just want her to stay active and letting her go to her house, was like I was letting go of a child and sending them out on their own for the first time. I prayed hard for her. She was confirmed yesterday! I have also given her a few blessings and she is still going strong! We are working to baptize her son, also. I felt so happy when she was baptized, it was a feeling that I haven`t had in a long time. We also hit our goal of 10 new investigators this week but we actually found 12 so we are doing really well! The baptism was a great uplift.

Me filling up the font, so excited...

At the baptism...

C.'s cat is also reading the Book of Mormon, Haha!

The other Elders in this photo are Elder Figueroa and Elder Donoso, the Zone Leaders and Elder Wadsworth. Elder Bowerbank was transferred early because Elder Pedernera left the office and he came to Clorinda so now Elder Pedernera is with me again! It is fun being with him again. He has been like my companion for the whole mission. I started with him in Curuzu Cautia and then we were in the office together, and now here again in Clorinda! Haha. We are great friends, haha. It will be nice serving with him again, we will be doing divisions with them sometime soon.

Things with Elder Velasquez are good, just normal and tranquillo. (chill)
So multizona is on Wednesday, the area Im serving in is good. I got sick this week, but I managed to keep the spirits up. I was blessed a lot by God this week.

When Argentina lost their World Cup game this last week the people were out saying bad words and screaming while we were walking around in the streets, even the schools here turn on the game when Argentina plays and the whole school watches it! The Argentines were mad, haha, really mad. I hope they pull through in the World Cup, though. It is so hard to teach the gospel to them during the games. Tomorrow, I think they will be playing Nigeria.

I love you and miss you all so much. You are such great examples to me in my life. I couldn`t ask for better parents that trust in God and are so blessed for doing so. I am doing well and Im working hard. I am really excited to play soccer when I get back home. The World Cup is getting me pumped! Say hi to all the family for me, especially Zane and Miranda.

Chau!

Looking back, ward talent show, World Cup and a Word of Wisdom lesson...

June 18, 2018

Hey Everyone,

I look back to Curuzu Cautia my first area, and I think man, I have come a long way! I cant believe that I have been here in Argentina for so long. All of the experiences that I have had are amazing. I love the mission. I have had struggles, trials and disappointments, but I have also had many blessings, it has all been good.

I hope Fathers Day was good for you dad!

So, yeah I performed for the ward talent show and all the kids loved it and the members did too. A lot of the members wanted to film me afterward to post it on Facebook. Haha. The pension is better now but still needs a lot of work.

I fasted yesterday and today for help with the mission and for my investigators.

I am glad you got my car out and got to see Zane and Miranda and Max. Have fun watching the world cup, I wish we could watch it but cant. Things are crazy down here with all of the World Cup stuff happening. It is hard to find people to teach. I can`t believe Germany lost to Mexico. The Argentines were happy about that one, though. Haha. and Sweden won today, so that is good.  I wish we could play more soccer here. I am going to play a lot more when I get back home.

So, things that happened this week was that this drunk dude came up to us in a lesson and started bothering us. He gave me 3 hugs, Haha, and he kept trying to sell us his Mandioca plant. It is like a root that they eat here to get high. He is like, Hey, buy this Mandioca from me and he opens the front of his pants and pulls this bag of Mandioca out of them, and I was trying not to laugh. The dude said he liked my eyes, Haha. He started to grab the arm of the girl we were teaching, she said, let go and then she just went into her Kiosko (business) and locked the door. I ended up giving him a nickel from the states to get him to go away. It was a good lesson though because it was a Word of Wisdom lesson and it so happens that the girl we were teaching was 16 and she drinks, It was an example of Why not to get involved in stuff like that in the first place. It is so sad to see that even really young people are involved in things like that.

As for the work, C. has almost quit smoking and should be baptized this Saturday, hopefully. Pray for her! We also found another investigator that is for sure a baptism. We will see how things go with her.

Well, I love you all!

Chau,
Elder Nate Pendleton

New area, work progressing, clean pension...

June 11, 2018

First of all, Happy Fathers Day next week! I love you soooo much! I cant even possibly explain how great of an example you are to me, dad! Youre the best!

Elder Velasquez is from Santiago Chile. He speaks English but I only speak Spanish with him usually. Elder Velasquez is a good guy but I just don`t have a connection with him yet. He is a good companion. He teaches well and he is doing a good job of showing me the area. He is really calm and normal you could say. We get out and work every hour of every day. We work hard and we are pretty obedient. We have found and taught a lot of investigators this week. We have a few that can almost be baptized. One just has to quit smoking and the other one has to come to church and then they are ready.  The work is good and it is progressing. Member lunches are good and the people are pretty nice here.

The trip was fun up to Clorinda, it is a huge crossroads. Clorinda is a branch and I work within the city limits. My area is everything on the other side of the Ruta 11 that cuts the city in two. Centro is fun and there are good places to eat here, but our area is really far from Centro. My area is the most beat up part of Clorinda.  It is really cold and really hot sometimes, and sometimes that is at the same time, Haha, and it is also really windy.  The pension is pretty dirty but I will get it cleaned up.

The guys in the district are Elder Figueroa and Elder Donoso, which are the zone leaders, then there is Elder Wadsworth and Elder Bowerbank. Elder Wadsworth is a good dude I get along well with him.

Thats great that Melissa Anderson got called to the Ecuador Guayaquil North mission. That will be a good mission, hot but good. I know a few Elders from there I believe. Ecuador is a cool place! Congratulate her for me!

So, things that happened this week are that we had lots of member lunches. We had two investigators in church on Sunday and we have found lots of people to teach this week. Today we cooked grilled chicken and I started the fire under the grill and cooked them for us. It was dirty hot work but it was also fun.

I miss you all and love you more than you could know!  Stay Safe!
Love,
Elder Nate Pendleton

New Area, hint it's close to Paraguay...

Almost caught up with posts, this one was from June 5, 2018...

So, are ya ready to find out my new area? I am in Clorinda III. It is one of the best areas in the mission! They baptize a lot here, so, to be honest, the worst thing here is the pension. It is a really cool pension, but it is sooooooooo gross. The floor, you cant even see the tile because it is caked with so much dirt. The whole pension smells like raw sewage and the shower is broken, so more cold showers! I have never seen a worse pension. It just isn`t healthy, I am going to clean the crap out of it!

So, my new companion is Elder Adonis Velasquez. He is from Chile. He is a really nice dude. He is really chill and quiet. We are going to have a good time. It is his last transfer here, so the next transfer I will have someone else new. I am a district leader again so I had to teach this morning. My zone is so awesome! Clorinda is right on the other side of Asuncion Paraguay. There are a lot of cheap things to buy from Paraguay. I have to be fast with my emails today. I am glad that there are prayers coming my way. I can feel them! I am happy and I am so ready to go out and teach. I am a little nervous but it is great! We have member lunches every day here so that is awesome.

When I spoke in church in Esquina I spoke about Christ-like attributes and charity. The journey was long in getting here. I am excited to have members go to Paraguay to bring things back for me. I also can`t wait for the World Cup, its a big thing down here in Argentina!

Oh, I forgot to tell you but last week, Angelo the kid I taught in Resistencia got baptized, so that is good news! I told Elder Harris to baptize him when I left and they finished the last lesson with him and baptized him. I am counting that one!

So anyway I am doing well. I am going to send lots of pics, sorry for short email the keyboard sucks in this place. So we found this cool place in Esquina, I will send pics I also found timberland boots in the pension that were all muddy and I cleaned them up to use them, they are sweet!

Before we left Esquina we had four investigators come to church last Sunday, they are almost ready to be baptized. The multizona was great. It helped me out so much. I saw elder Hopkins there and a few others

I am excited to see the whole city of Clorinda. Paraguay is right across the river. It is a huge city on the other side. It is the capital of Paraguay.
I cant wait to get to know all of Clorinda.
I love you and miss you all,

Chau,
Elder Nate Pendleton
